What does it mean to totally surrender?

In the dictionary it says "to give oneself up, as into the power of another; submit or yield."

There is a family who lived a comfortable life in their nice neighborhood. There was something with in them that could not sit still. Something with in them that desired to live a life so much more sacrificial for their God. The Lord told this family to move their lives to the darkest, hurting, depressed capital in their state to be the hands and feet of Jesus to the lost and dying souls in this dark community. These streets are loaded with lost souls high on crack, prostitution, homeless, starving, and abandoned. This family surrendered their lives to the Lord to bring hope to the hopeless.

There is a lady named Gloria. She is a prostitute on the street where this family lives. Gloria knocks on their door asking for food and lying for reason to receive money for crack. Gloria is alone, hurt, bitter, and depressed; walking along dark streets torminted by the devil. Gloria never leaves this families doorstep with out hearing who she has potential to be like in Christ. Gloria truly believes she is hopeless and their is no redemption for her life. Gloria walks away from this home of life saying, "If i died, I would burn in hell, and God would say he hates my sin, and would tell me to depart from him." Gloria, as of now is surrendering her life to the lies of the enemy drenching herself in the hopelessness of darkness.

These are two scenarios of surrendering. One surrendering to the One and Only God and one surrendering to the force of darkness!

We can not serve two masters!
